Brock’s Strive Green Chili Burger Recipe
Ingredients
2 Whole Anaheim Green Chiles
1 Tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
8 oz. Ground Beef (80/20)
1 Tsp Lawry’s Seasoning Salt
1/4 Tsp Fresh Cracked Black Pepper
Two 1/2 inch slices of Sourdough Bread (Make your own or grab a loaf from your favorite local bakery)
1 Tbsp. Butter
2 Slices of Pepper Jack Cheese
8 oz. Green Chili (Make your own or grab a cup from your favorite local Taco Joint
Serves one or maybe two cut in half.
Instructions
Turn your broiler on high and rub the green chilies with the extra virgin olive oil. Place chilies in iron skillet and roast in the oven until blackened on all sides, turning as needed. Remove skillet from the oven (careful this will be hot for a while) and take chilies from the pan and place them in a bowl covered with plastic wrap to steam for at least 20 minutes. (This will loosen the skin for peeling) Once cooled, peel the peppers, remove the seeds, and set aside.
Place ground beef in a bowl and season with Lawry’s and black pepper. Mix thoroughly and form into a tight ball. Patty the beef to desired thickness. (I prefer a smashed style burger) Heat the iron skillet you cooked your chilies in over medium high heat and cook burger to desired doneness. (5-7 minutes for medium)
While the burger is cooking, butter your sourdough bread on one side of each piece and heat up your green chili. Take your sourdough bread and place in a non-stick pan over medium high heat, buttered sides down, to lightly toast.
Build your burger by placing one piece of sourdough, toasted side down on an oven proof plate, and top with the burger. Pour the green chili over the burger and lay the 2 slices of pepper jack cheese on top. Place the plate in the oven and broil on high until the cheese is melted. Pull the plate out of the oven and top with the slices of roasted green chilies and the other slice of bread, toasted side up. Serve with your favorite burger side and enjoy!
